A new community and fitness initiative is set to launch in the Medway towns, thanks to a £5,000 grant awarded to Active Kent and Medway, a division of Kent County Council, through the Active Thames watersports funding program. The funding will support a variety of fitness activities, including monthly kayaking sessions along the River Medway. Medway Council's portfolio holder for heritage, culture, and leisure, Nina Gurung, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We are committed to enhancing the health and well-being of our residents in Medway."
The grant will fund coaching fees, assistant coach certifications, kayaking sessions, and necessary equipment. Medway Council has announced that the new fitness program is set to launch in April. Active Thames, an initiative aimed at promoting watersports along the tidal Thames and the inland waterways of London, Kent, and Essex, has allocated a total of £131,545 in its latest funding round, supporting 22 community projects.
