Town to Host Its First Dementia Awareness Day

In a certain town, the first dementia day will be organized to talk about the disease and raise money through a charity event for the affected person. The events in Bewdley, in Worcestershire, are planned for the 10th of August and consist of a prayer meeting of all St. Anne's Church parishioners and also contests, games, and outdoor activities in Jubilee Garden. Sharon Harvey, the organizer of the Bewdley Dementia Support Group, expressed her desire to see the whole town involved in the event, hoping at least 200 people will take part in the event.

"We are not quite sure if Bewdley hosted such an event before. The initiative is aimed at making dementia more understandable through a well-organized educational campaign," she said to BBC Hereford and Worcester. "Bewdley is an old town, and the probability that people suffering from dementia and their caregivers will increase is a very good possibility." The Alzheimer's Society states that the disease affects about 928,000 people in the UK, but a third of those told have no clue about their situation. The organization has anticipated the number to jump to 1.4 million by 2040, as per the organization's speculation.

Ms. Harvey talked about the introduction of her group with the Bewdley Dementia Support Group, telling how some of her relatives came into being. "The essence of our group is about the community, the carers, and the patients, as well as those who would like to have a clearer picture of what the disease actually is. It is such a dreadful one of all other diseases, she added. We believe that through comradeship, interaction, and knowledge, the needy in this kind of port will be offered a nice one."

The event is a part of the dementia-friendly community project of the NGO to make Bewdley a welcoming place for the people suffering from the disease where they get sympathy, recognition, and assistance. In addition to extending the campaign, the organization leader, Ms. Harvey, stated they wanted the party to be a more relaxing environment for the participants according to consumers' feedback. "We do not ask for many things. We aim for both the carer and the one who suffers from it to have a good time. We hope for great joy and success," she stated.
