The First Monday comes into existence in May, and just around the corner from public figures and their stylists, there will certainly be drawn preparations for what is one of the largest fashion spectacles in the world—the Met Gala.
'Tailored for You' is possibly going to be the first Met Gala dress code to position menswear in the very center of the word, the last being the 2003 'Men in Skirts' theme. It requires guests to have their own interpretations of tailoring and all things suiting but very, very simply sets out a guideline rather than an actual instruction, leaving it interpretation open-ended.
Borrowing from the very aesthetics of the Met's own exhibition, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style": bringing to the fore the rich heritage of Black dandyism, the very dress code has opened the conversation. Dandyism was how the Met explained it as the guy who was into "studies" in terms of dressing fine, and then it brought about a style that was once mandated upon Black men in 18th-century Europe, called "dandified servants." It was later an instrument with which a Black man became reclaimed through dress and some personality features.
Certainly, a good number of those who patronize the Met Gala might view tailor-manship and its values but tend to look at Black menswear designers as to where they could find directions and, maybe, even creations.
To help select the theme, the co-hosts would create the guest list, food, and decor; aid fundraising, promotion, and publicity efforts before and during the event; and greet guests on the red carpet as the night begins, not to mention possibly performing like other past co-hosts have.
Attendees' names are kept very tightly under wraps for every gala, up until the very day of the event. Rumors, naturally, will circulate prior to the event. What we know from the Met itself is the host committee members, a current concept being revived this year. Celebrities will be attending should always be taken with a pinch of salt.
Not only is the guest list predicted, but also predicted is the celebrity who'll walk the aisle with which designer. While some attendees indeed have very visible attachments to their ambassadorships, the last-minute scuffling of musical seats at some of the largest fashion houses suggests that some brands are off-limits now.
According to several media outlets, including this one, Prada and Louis Vuitton appear to have booked tables for this evening, meaning that they will also participate in the red carpet. Burberry, on the other hand, revealed that collaboration with Zendaya's "image architect" Law Roach will work as a partner/consultant that year for the brand theme in creative expression for this British brand and was also supposed to create the brand's Met Gala table. Who will form this table is yet to be determined.
